Cult Classics Series 5: Hannibal Lecter

- OTHER FIGURES -
The incredible TV series Hannibal has got me in the mood to showcase the Hannibal Lecter figure, from Cult Classics Series 5. Based on Anthony Hopkins appearance in The Silence of the Lambs, the figure is nice, but has a few problems. Lets get on with the showcase and see what's on the menu...

Release: 2006
Series: Cult Classics Series 5
Company: NECA
Accessories: Mask, Gurney
Articulation: Ball joint Neck, Cut Ankles

It's been awhile since I've seen The Silence of the Lambs, but I do agree that Hannibal Lecter's most memorable appearance, would be with the iconic face mask on. As for the actual bright orange prison uniform, it's a little too bright, but it certainly makes the figure pop on the shelves. Sadly, this figure has a few issues. Due to the look NECA went for, Lecter in a straight jacket and gurney, the figure is severely lacking in articulation and poses. He can move his head and ankles, but that's it and he really only looks good on the gurney. The gurney itself can lean back or straight up.

For some completely strange reason, NECA decided to have Hopkin's balding spot on the back of his head, be sculpted with hair and just painted flesh colour. It's awful looking and really takes away from the figure's overall value. As for the sculpt and rest of the paint, it's pretty good, with minimal slop around the hairline, although the hair itself is a little too dark, but still, it does a good enough job of capturing Hopkin's sinister appearance. As for the mask, it's hard to put the straps through the holes and they don't always stay in.

Overall, the figure is above average, but limited in pose-ability and is hampered by a few issues. However, it's still a pretty iconic version of Lecter and fans of our favorite cannibal, will be pleased in the end.
